My friend Lisa Jelle just shared these wonderful words with me. How beautiful and truthful they are. I had to pass them along...
"Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." -Kahlil Gibran
"Joy is prayer-Joy is strength-Joy is love-Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls. She gives most who gives with joy." - Mother Teresa
Sorry for the short notice on this one!!! My singer pal Rachel Sepulveda is preparing to head off to graduate school and was planning to sing tonight but was not feeling too good after a neck injury, so I will be filling in. Please come out and join me tonight (Wednesday, August 19th) at Natalie's Coal Fired Pizza for an evening of hot jazz and warm pies!! I am singing with a trio that will feature Tony Bonardi on keyboard, Nathan Smith on bass, and Maxwell Button on the drums! We hit at 9pm!! http://nataliescoalfiredpizza.com/calendar-of-events/list/
........... I apologize for the huge break from this website!! I have been out of touch with things for far too long..............I have almost completely forgotten how to do this!!! I will attempt to update and be much more active here from now on. As some of you are already aware, my husband Erik was diagnosed with Leukemia (APL) back in October. We have put many things on hold during this past year........... and while it has held it's heavy challenges, it has been a year of continued growth and enlightenment.
........... I am happy to say that Erik has finished his treatments and is thankfully in complete molecular remission!! All of the prayers and love and support from our friends, family, and community have touched us very deeply. We feel so blessed!!
............ We are definitely ready to begin to return to balance. Erik will return to teaching at Capital this month and playing more regularly. As for me, in addition to my music teaching, I will continue to perform (the Billie Holiday tribute performances this past year were such a treat!). I am also hoping to reintroduce the Colossal Joy Singing Circle some time in the very near future and I have some new and exciting things on the horizon for The Colossal Joy Project.
........... I know that it can sometimes seem like your world is covered in a blanket of complete, debilitating darkness......but in those times it becomes even more important to be assured that each of us holds within our spirits a window for illumination to enter our world. I am still here and I remain committed to helping to inspire and shine more positive light into this world. Love in Abundance and Colossal Joy to each and every one of you! -Lisa
